Massage Spa Day at Sunrise Senior Living in North Vancouver

It was as a “Brilliant & Sunny” afternoon for the hard working and extremely caring staff at Sunrise Senior Living on their Spa Day of Appreciation July 26, 2013.  So much so, that the gorgeous sunlight streaming through the window (yes, that’s a luscious green forest setting backyard) proved an overexposed photo. Well, you get the idea… For several years now, I’ve provided annual massage and acupressure sessions to Sunrise of North Vancouver employees, and this year worked with 25 amazing individuals. Aside from watching their bodies melt under my hands and FEELING more relaxed and less discomfort, what stood out THE MOST was these individuals’ appreciation for their work at Sunrise and their dedication to positively impacting seniors’ lives (even the difficult ones, sadly due to dementia). Many of the ladies come from the Philippines, starting as a nanny as their first Canadian employment and moving their way up the ladder by training in the care aid program. Beautiful people who do not take anything for granted and appreciate the opportunities in Canada. My next on-site Massage event will be on September 20-21, 2013 at the 8th Annual Pacific Rhapsody dental hygienist conference held in downtown Vancouver at the Harbourside Renaissance Hotel (Marriott). Do you have an upcoming corporate event? Planning a private gig (bridal shower, spa night, couples massage)? Contact me for a quotation and to relax, inspire and motivate your attendees. Looking to raise money at your next fundraiser or community event? Ask about door prizes and Gift Certificates for Massage and/or consultations. To enjoy a Massage at my North Vancouver studio or in the comfort...

Guest Blog: How to Be a Healthy Vegetarian, by Nancy @ HoliHealth.ca

THANK YOU NANCY FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION!! A great lady and wise colleague. Colleen 🙂 Last week my blog focused on why I became a vegetarian and this week I want to focus on how to be a healthy vegetarian. For me giving up meat was actually quite easy.  After reading Diet for A New America by John Robbins and learning about the treatment of animals intended for human consumption, I stopped eating meat fairly quickly.  Now, just because I stopped eating meat it didn’t mean that I was going to be any healthier. There are many studies and it is broadly accepted in the medical and alternative health communities that, key point – done properly, a vegetarian diet is very healthy and in fact, beneficial for the environment, animal welfare, disease prevention and longevity. So if simply cutting out meat doesn’t make you healthier, what does? When I asked myself this question and I think about what I would tell a novice vegetarian I realized I would tell this person the same thing I would tell anyone wanting to eat a healthy diet:  eat whole foods as close to their original form as Mother Nature created them; eat a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and grains; eliminate processed, poor quality foods, sugar and wheat; eat organic when possible and think of NUTRIENTS (how what you are eating will fuel and nourish your body)!   The one piece of advice I absolutely feel every person and especially vegetarians need to heed is to be cautious about soy.  Scientists and medical experts do not agree on the benefits or hazards of soy.  In fact, I...

Spirit Signs: Moving Objects….Inspired by my sister Corrine

18 years later and I continue to receive creative forms of communication from all my loved ones in Spirit – which there are many. Today’s blog Insight is inspired by my sister Corrine, who transitioned 7 1/2 years ago, 3 days shy of my birthday. With countless way for a Spirit to show their presence, the most dominant form my Spirit family has FUN showing their unique humour is through Moving Objects. A few days ago I entered the bathroom and one of the shower curtain rings is off the shower rod – AGAIN – for perhaps the tenth time. Always the same ONE and in my direct line of vision, I laughed aloud and thought “What is on my mind in this exact moment? What does Corrine want me to reflect on?” At times, this surprise communication is purely to capture my attention. It brings me back to the present moment, literally dragging me out of my momentarily chaotic negative thinking. Other times, this spontaneous interruption is to communicate that they understand my feeling or dilemma. Although they are not wearing my shoes (literally) and unable to comprehend the exact emotion I’m going through, they have my back. My sister Corrine suppressed her emotional pain through excessive alcohol consumption, a severe alcoholic she was. Coupled with prior damage to her liver, this sped up an eventual collapse of her body, dying at the young age of 35 years. Her liver and associated organs could no longer bare further abuse. As for me, in years past and sometimes now, I‘ve used food or lack of good nutrition as my...
